A cycling holiday along the Amalfi Coast in Italy, is an unforgettable experience! The Sorrento Peninsula is rich in both natural and cultural treasures. Well known villages such as Amalfi, Positano, Ravello and the seaside resort city of Sorrento, have a lot of amazing stories to tell you. This tour is for those who want to experience Italy's most beautiful coastline at their own pace, on an active holiday with a good mix of physical activity and time to relax and just enjoy. On this cycling tour you will discover the famous beauty and the secrets of the Amalfi Coast. You will be astonished at how easy it is to get off the beaten track, just a few hundred meters from the main tourist tracks, you will all of the sudden find yourself in the middle of nature. In other words: This cycling holiday is the perfect way to experience the Amalfi Coast.
Upon arrival at Cetara you will check in at the hotel, where the bikes await you (if you do not bring your own). Depending on the arrival time, an evenings stroll through the small town's historical center, is posible before dinner is served in the restaurant of the hotel. Should you arrive early, you can take a short bikeride to the nearby beautiful village of Vietri sul Mare, famous for its production of colorful ceramics.
In case you did not have time to experience Cetara yesterday, this is where you will be doing the first stop of the day. Take a cup of coffee in the café at the harbor, from where you can see the local fishermen working on their beautifully colored boats. Proceed to Capo d'Orso, the highest point of on the route, with sweeping views across the Amalfi Coast and all the way to the isle of Capri. From here you will have energy to enjoy the surroundings, as you roll down the mountain on a road that winds through lemon groves and forest, before reaching the dramatic cliffs near Maiori. This is the largest city on the coast and from here the route continues further around the beautiful mountain sides to Minori, a small attractive town with a beautiful seafront promenade. From here it is a short climb to Castiglione, where you can choose whether you want to continue on the bike up to Ravello (steep ascent) or cycle directly down to Amalfi. Here you can leave the bikes at the hotel and take a bus to Ravello. In the evening a private boat will take you to a restaurant in the bay near by. Here you will enjoy your dinner. - After dinner you will be sailed back to Amalfi.
Todays cycling will bring you on another part of the dramatic "Strada Amfltana" that runs from Amalfi to Sorrento. You will ride on the ridge of the peninsula with amazing views of both the Coasts of Amalfi and Sorrento. Just outside Amalfi passes the 'Grotta Azzurra' and the deep fjord Furore, where the fishing huts are clinging to cliffs. Continue with a short bike ride through the whitewashed village of Praiano, and all the way to Positano, the most picturesque villages on the coast. When arriving at Positano you should make sure to cycle down to the town center towards the beach, from where you can explore the city on foot (most of the city alleys consists of stairs). On the other side of Positano the coast becomes more rugged, and the route ascents up to the Colli di San Pitro, which is beautifully situated on the ridge that separates the Amalfi Coast from the rest of the Sorrento Peninsula. The last stretch from here is short and flat and leads you to your hotel in Sorrento. Use the evening to relax and enjoy a great dinner in the hotel restaurant.
The first stage of todays route, will take you cycling on a plateau, high above the coast towards the tip of the peninsula, Punta Campanella. Here you can admire the beautiful panorama of the coastline, as well as the plains that stretches all the way to Naples and which is dominated by Mount Vesuvius. From Termini, located at the tip of the peninsula, there are great views to Capri. If you are up for a dip in the sea, you can go down to the lovely beach of Marina del Cantine, before returning along the coastal road in northern direction. Next you will cycle through the charming village of Massa Lubrense. It is possible to make an extension into Sorrento with its gorgous location on top of vertical limestone cliffs high above the sea. Or turn into the countryside again just before Sorrento and cycle up towards Sant’Agata sui Due Golfi. From here a short, flat stretch will bring you to Colle di San Pietro, and all the way down to Positano. Rolling down this road just before sunset is a worldclass cycling experience! Make yourself comfortable at your hotel in Positano before going out for dinner. Dinner tonight is at own expense, and there is a rich choice of restaurants and pizzerias.
Last day in the saddle, so make sure to take in as much of the charming Italian beauty and atmosphere with you home. If you have not visited the Cathedral of Amalfi, grabed a cup of coffee at the nice square in Atrani, enjoyed a piece of pastry from one of the bakeries in Minori, or even stoped for a cool beverage at Maiori's seafront promenade - now is the time to do it. Notise the beautiful surroundings you go through as you cycle towards Cetara, and maybe stop to check out some of the famous ceramics, as you pass through Vietri sul Mare. When you reach Salerno, get off the bikes, and take a stroll through the city, that holds a medieval castle, amazing botanical gardens, and beautiful caracteristic alleys in the old part of the city. In the evening you can choose the restaurent you want to end off your Amalfi Coast experience - Dinner on this evening is not included. You will stay at a hotel in Salerno.
After breakfast it is time to pack your luggage, and check out of the hotel for departure.
