There are exciting experiences in store for those, who embark on a walking holiday in Montenegro. The country has only been independent since 2006 and the country is developing fast.
The Montenegrins are open-hearted and want to develop their tourism. Therefore, signs and information are both written in Montenegrin and English. Especially the younger generations know English at a good level. The older generation does what they can in the form of friendly body language to help.
Magnificent routes, landscapes and sights can be experienced in this tour, which, among other things, brings you to Kotor Bay, which today is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The small mountain villages have amazing stories, beautiful buildings, interesting ruins and, not least, a terrain that is a real pleasure to wander around.
The route
This tour follows along mainly good trails (military and shepherd trails). In addition, there will be short sections on gravel roads and smaller town roads.

Mount Vrmac is situated like a barrier between the innermost part of the Bay, Bay of Kotor and the outer part, Bay of Tivat. The best hike starts in Kotor on the military zig-zag-trail named after Austrian emperor Franz-Josef (in local language: Franjo Josip) and climbs um to the mighty fortress "Vermac" built in 1892 and still almost completely intact until the present day. From here you follow the mountain ridge to the highest top of Vrmac, Sveti Ilija (765 m). The descent follows an old shepherd's trail down to the village of Prcanj, where you can visit the ruins of an old church destroyed in an earthquake and finally can enjoy your coffee directly at the seaside promenade.
